Annette Stephen (1911-1991)
Born in Aberdeen and raised in Stonehaven, Annette studied at Edinburgh College of Art. Following graduation, she spent time in France before returning to Aberdeen at the outbreak of the Second World War where she began to teach art at schools in and around Aberdeen. She lived in the tiny coastal village of Catterline virtually all her adult life, indeed she introduced her friend Joan Eardley to the village in 1950. When Eardley found a cottage that she felt was perfect to paint from but found it out of her means, Annette stepped in and financed it for her.
