Carl Fischer (1887-1962)
A Danish painter, he was a regular and committed participant in the annual exhibitions at Charlottenborg, The Danish Royal Academy. Although a painter of landscapes, street scenes, flowers and still lives, he was primarily known for his representations of young women in half or full figure in interior settings. His style was influenced by the French modernists and he was often short of money, selling paintings cheaply to his enthusiastic supporters, notably his fellow painter and friend Peter Hougaard who built a significant collection of Fischer’s work.
