John Ewing (Born 1928)
Immediately after the Second War John Ewing enrolled at the Royal Academy Schools, where up to that date he was the youngest ever student to do so. On graduation he took the Art Teachers Diploma and spent his working life teaching firstly in St. Albans and then Croydon. Much of his work records post war London, principally along the Thames and the changing face of commerce on the river. The 1960’s proved his most productive period and he often exhibited with the Wapping Group of Artists who shared his love of the Thames and its marine traffic. At this time he was holding regular exhibitions at the Piccadilly Gallery in Cork Street, the Camden Arts Centre and the Mall Galleries. In the provinces he exhibited at the Holkham Arts centre and in Sevenoaks.
