John Maddison (b. 1952)
Born in St Andrews, Fife, he studied Art History at Manchester going on to lecture in Medieval Art at Leeds following graduation in 1974. He has been an Architectural Adviser to the Victorian Society and served as the National Trust Historic Buildings Representative for East Anglia. He studied painting under Dick Lee and has had wide critical acclaim in the national press. e art critic of e Times described him as a painter ‘capable of investing the ordinary table-top still-life with magic and mystery’. In 1995 he was commissioned by e National Trust to paint a series of panels for a restaurant at Felbrigg Hall. In 2008 he was commissioned to design the new altar for the Lady Chapel in Ely Cathedral. For this commission, John was one of five artists short listed for the coveted 2015 ACE Awards
