Roy Spencer (1918-2006)
Born in Stamford, Lincolnshire in 1918 he initially trained as an architect before his nascent career was interrupted by war service in 1939. After the war he studied from 1946 at Chelsea School of Art under Raymond Coxon remaining to teach and working as a tutor there until the1980s. He enjoyed a successful career as a commercial artist working for House and Garden Magazine, Shell and the Bodley Head. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the New English Art Club.
