Unknown 1920s American Illustrator
This is the original artwork in oils for a well known advertisement for the Packard Motor Company that appeared across the world. The image first appeared in 1929 and was accompanied by the strap line - 'Packard like its patrons demands and selects only the best the world provides'. Packard was an American luxury automobile marque built by the Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan, United States. The first Packard automobiles were produced in 1899, and the last Detroit-built Packard in 1956, when they built the Packard Predictor, their last concept car. A number of artists working on Packard ads at this time have been suggested as possible authors of this painting, chiefly Manning de Villeneuve Lee, Pruett Carter, Walter Briggs and Philip Lyford.
