William Gibson (1909-1988)
William Gibson was a Swedish artist and engineer. He was the son of Captain William Gibson and Aina Isabella Koch and nephew of the designer Sidney Gibson. William studied engineering at Chalmers University 1929-34 and began working as an engineer. He started painting in 1935 and traveled that year to London where he studied at the Chelsea School of Art. He then moved to Paris from 1937 to 1939, where he studied with Marcel Gromaire amongst others. He studied at the Valand School of Art in Gothenburg during Fall semester 1940 and spring semester 1941. He exhibited at Linköping Museum in 1951. He exhibited at the Art Gallery in Gothenburg, Galerie Moderne and Louis Hahnes art shop in Stockholm with Rune Persson and Per Olof Zachrisson . He was predominantly a painter of interiors, cityscapes and landscapes. He died in Glumslöv, Skåne in July 1988.
