"I have known and admired PJ's paintings for as long as I have been in the art world. As a young gallery assistant in the Cotswolds in the 1990s she was the only 'local' artist with a truly international reputation. Over the years I have followed her remarkable career with interest and it is a great pleasure for Panter & Hall to now be showing her work on a regular basis.

We were eager at the gallery to mount a small exhibition to introduce PJ's paintings to our clients not already familiar with her work. Clearly twenty new works at such short notice would be impossible, instead we have managed to curate a small retrospective, a survey of paintings drawn from recent years.

Amongst canvases fresh from the studio, we are exhibiting works recalled from long term loan to Gloucestershire College and from PJ's own studio collection. When confronted with an original PJ Crook it is easy to understand the enthusiasm with which her collectors approach her work. She creates a luxurious narrative world that although in stylistic tradition owes much to Spencer and Roberts, in spirit is more in tune with Diego Rivera and the Latin American tradition.

The drama in each composition, often accentuated by the sheer scale of the work, bursts out of the picture plane and envelopes the frame into the whole image. This technique, along with the distinctive bold modelling of her figures and stage-set theatricality of their backdrops, has created a visual brand that is now recognisable in collections the world over."
