Athol Whitmore

Athol Whitmore graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art in 2002, and is currently based in Oxford where he lives and works.

As a multidisciplinary artist, Athol’s work is unconstrained by medium; the artist produces works using a diverse range of found materials including ceramic bowls, saucepans and seats from old leatherette dining chairs. Athol’s work is unified by a repeated exploration of themes on childhood and memory, often provoking a nostalgic reaction in the viewer by his use of domestic objects, such as furniture, toys and ceramics, and cartoon like images of children. In combining nostalgic imagery and contemporary mediums, Whitmore’s playful works lead the viewer to question their adult perception of childhood, prompting reflection and recollection.
