The Passions of Paul Maze
Exhibition E-Catalogue
A collection of works largely drawn from the artist's estate, this exhibition concentrates on the great personal passions of Paul Maze that he repeatedly returns to in his subjects. Through sections devoted to each, the catalogue explores his great love of British military pomp and ceremony, of the rolling countryside around his West Sussex home and of course, his loyal and devoted wife Jessie. Trips around the globe, often at the invitation of the Vanderbilts or his friend and painting companion Sir Winston Churchill were recorded with his usual lively impressionism. Known as the 'Last Impressionist' he was close to de Segonzac and Vuillard in Paris between the wars and we are lucky enough to be able to offer rare studies of both men drawn from life.
